Ooh, What A feelin'/We were dancin' on the ceiling: Cathy in Purple, Deb in Red, Tim in Blue

Week Nine, Episode One: The Elite Eight...Again

richie.gif (11118 bytes) Oooh, great theme.  I think there will be lots of fun songs.  I think it'll be peppy.  Btw, I like that all the themes are diff than last year.  I didn't realize there were so many possibilities!  Wow, who knew Paula had 6 #1s.  Why?!?!?  No way, they didn't EVEN get Lionel Ritchie!  How surprising.

Lionel is awsom!!! I also like that he watches the show.

Lionel is trying hard for a comeback... I saw him on the Tonight Show doing his duet of Brick House with Rob Zombie. Well, good for him, hope he gets some good retirement money. He seems fairly down to earth, and he did his homework for his judging job, so good for him!

Clay (At this moment) (7) - Didn't like his start.  Ok, I think he has a great voice, but always the same style of singing.  Soft and then the big loud punch, and then a soft ending with his eyes closed (or a big corny smile).  It gets boring after a while.  What?  I can't believe of all the performances that Simon has hated in the last few weeks, he loves this one?!?!?  He makes no sense to me this year.  What-e-va!

Very nice. Cool that he got good comments from Simon. I do have to say that after listening to your AI CD I kind of agree with you that his songs do sound similar. Ruben’s do too but I still think that Ruben might have a bit more range than the Claymeister.

Yeah, he always goes for these really dramatic songs to show off his Broadway voice. But I thought he did well here. I like this sort of song for him, not ones about GD mice going on adventures.

jimv.jpg (6293 bytes) Dude, Jim V looks G-A-Y!

D’oh! I missed him! I was in the kitchen, grrr.

Um, Cathy, what show were you watching last season if you're just coming to that decision now?

Hey, speaking of last year's contestants, check out this fun page!

Kimberly L. (My heart will go on) (5) - Why did she even put herself through that?  I think it sounded fine but never as good as Celine!  The judges hate that stuff.  Actually, the middle was fun, but the beginning was really bad.  I have to say, I agree with Randy.  Hmmmm,  I think Simon must've gotton some last night.  He's in way too good a mood!

This was a standout performance for her. If she keeps performing like that I think she’ll stay around for a while. Really dumb backing vocals, "Why does the heart go on?" I’m glad she got good comments. And I’m glad Simon got some. He did seem to be in a better mood today than lately, but I also think that’s b/c the show was a lot better tonight than the last couple of weeks. This is an excellent theme! It lets everyone sing a song that’s their own style. I like it more.

lock.jpg (3080 bytes)

Also, Randy was being tough tonight- I've noticed that often when someone else says something negative (which is rare), Simon is generally a bit gentler with them. I guess he feels as long as they're getting some criticism, he doesn't need to drive it home. Except for when they are really bad. He doesn't tolerate that, and I think that's good. They're not at the school talent show- they're in the harsh world of the record industry, where if you don't keep selling records, the record label will drop you.

Ricky (Endless love) (9) - I really like this song.  He's gonna do great I think!  Huh, that was great.  Really interesting sounding and really good.  I think he did Ritchy proud.  Huh, the hat is cute.  I liked his look tonight.

Not my favorite performance of his. It was a little flat. Simon criticizing Lionel was hilarious!!!

I agree with Deb, Somon was funny there. I liked Ricky here, and I like the fact you gave him a second chance, Cathy, after getting freaked out by him early. I'm glad he's still around, but I can't see him winning.

Kimberly C (Everything I do I aim it at you) (7) - Hmmm, I think he said the wrong name for this song.  Ok, stupid song, but a good pick for Kimberly C.  If I didn't hate the song and her voice so much, I'd have liked this a lot because she did a good job.  She looked nice though.

I HATE this song. First of all, she sang the wrong words (Cathy, I think you know what I’m talking about). HOWEVER, I think it was very brave of her to not do her rock voice and try something new. I’m very glad Paula acknowledged that too. Unfortunately the experiment was not a success, she sounded awful. She doesn’t have a lot of range at all. I think she’s out very soon. Not this week, but definitely either next week or the week after. The next 3 people getting voted off are Carmen, Kimberly, and Trenyce (don’t know the order yet)

Good for her to try this, I agree. She stunk it up, though. I think she and Carmen took each other's songs.

Joshua (Amazed) (8) - Very country sounding, but a good pick for him.  Oh, I didn't like how they changed it from beginning to end of the song like that.  It sounds unnatural.  This kid is gonna be snatched up by the country people as soon as he's kicked off.  I hope he doesn't win, that would be really bad for him.

It was so great to see him hit his mark this week. He’s back on track. I thought he did a wonderful job.

soapbox.jpg (4587 bytes) He was good. HOWEVER, I will say this- this is American Idol on Fox, not Nashville Star on CMT. I don't like country in this contest very much. This should be stuff that will chart on the pop charts. Otherwise, how can they justify not putting on the rocker guy? He had a solid voice, I think they left him off because he didn't have mainstream commercial appeal. Josh got by on his looks and a decent voice, when he saw he couldn't keep up with Ruben and Clay, he went the country route- which was a very safe and easy choice for a marine during wartime. I'm just sayin'.

Carmen (Call me) (3) - I'm tired of her.  She took an exciting song by a sexyish lady and made it pretty boring.  She always sounds the same every week.  Yup, Paula said it best.  Not only that, but did you notice she's the only one who doesn't sing ballads.  That's because fast fun songs don't require the same kind of talent as ballads do and she doesn't wanna take a chance.

What a train wreck!!! At first I just thought it was kind of not good, but after watching it again at the end of the show I was cringing. Ouch! I actually think Kimberly C. would have done a lot better with this song, as long as she was doing her Nikki rock voice.

See you later, Carmen, that was your last song.

Trenyce (Power of love) (8) - Ok, I really didn't think she could do it an I was annoyed when I heard about another Celine song, especially this one, but she did really well.  Not her best but really good.  Also, I hate this songs so I'm lowering her song by 1 point for that!  Oooh, did you see your girl Tamyra in the audience?!?

Great job. Carmen’s out. Oh! Surprised by Simon’s comments! I’m surprised by how much he didn’t like her performance (he called her "cabaret"). Although, I think he might just want her out of the competition b/c she’s no longer AI material b/c of the criminal thing, it’s obvious there’s been a lot of backlash b/c of that. I’m sure that’s why she was in the bottom 2 last week. I think she’s still in for now, but won’t last much longer. Her following is diminishing. I think the only thing that saved her tonight was Carmen doing so poorly.

Agreed on Carmen doing badly...Trenyce may get a second life with the right performance on the right song. I don't think Fox would want it being just Kimberly Locke and the boys. I think they have a hand in how some of this winds up- like how many times has Ruben gone last?

TAMYRA!!!! I wish her album would come out already!!!

Ruben (Let's just kiss and say goodbye) (10+) - Awsom.  Nothing more to say!

Oh, I didn't even notice the look.  It looked so natural that it didn't stick out.  But he looked really good, now that I see it.

New look!!! I noticed it right away and thought it was great. I’m glad to see him mix up the look a little, it was time. He is so so good at selecting the right song. He’s the awsomest.

I didn't notice the look, either. This was a great song for him to do, he really dug deep for this choice. Well played.

I think that Lionel was the best guest judge so far.  He gave great comments and they meant a lot because he obviously watches the show every week.

I agree, he did a great job. It was great having someone on who follows the show and was also able to give such good critiques. I like him more.

cbg_dos.jpg (63829 bytes) It is settled then. Best. Judge. Ever.

Bottom 3:  Carmen, Kimberly C, Ricky  (according to America!!!)

Kimberly C will be voted off.

My bottom 3 are Carmen, Kimberly C, and Trenyce. Carmen will be voted off.

I agree wif mah wahf. Remember they combined scores for the past two weeks. Carmen is toast.
